What if measuring your carbon impact became the norm in all companies?
At Sopht, we believe that environmental transparency is essential to building a sustainable future. This is why we are sharing the results of our 2023 carbon footprint, an essential exercise to steer our ecological transition.
With this approach, we want to prove that it is possible to reconcile growth and environmental responsibility. Through our SaaS solution and internal practices, we aspire to become a model of decarbonization in the digital industry.
What exactly is the carbon footprint?
A carbon footprint is a snapshot of the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of an organization, an individual or a community. This tool makes it possible to quantify the environmental impact and to better target the actions to be taken.
The main greenhouse gases analysed are:
- CO₂ (carbon dioxide)
- CH₄ (méthane)
- N₂O (Protoxide D’Azote)
- HFCs, PFCs, and SF₆ (industrial gases)
Emissions are expressed in CO₂ equivalent (CO₂eq) for a simplified and comparable interpretation.
Our results in numbers
In 2023, our total emissions amounted to 61.7 tonnes of CO₂eq, an increase of 76% compared to the previous year. This increase is mainly due to the rapid growth of our workforce, with +80% of employees.
Our notable discounts:
- Emissions per employee: 0.97 TCO₂eq (-42%)
- Digital workspace: 1.25 TCO₂eq, an impressive 85% reduction, thanks to the optimization of our digital tools.
Our points of attention:
Some categories, such as external procurement (services, software, events), saw their emissions increase by 113%, reflecting our expansion and new needs.
Key Actions
A few key practices contributed to our results:
- Optimized remote work: 1.67 TCO₂eq reduction related to commuting.
- Refurbished equipment: less CO₂ and financial savings.
- Collective mobilization: each employee plays a role in reducing our impact.
Key lessons
When it comes to reducing our carbon footprint, every action counts, but experience has taught us that it’s when we join forces that impact becomes truly meaningful. Here is what we learned during our approach:
- Small gestures, big impact
Every action, no matter how small, ends up weighing in the balance. Whether it’s reducing paper printing, turning off unused lights, or opting for bike rides, it’s the sum of these efforts that makes all the difference.
- Collective commitment, a powerful lever
Mobilizing the entire team was a real driving force. When everyone feels involved and brings the project to their level, the ripple effect is impressive. Not only have the results improved, but the team spirit has also been strengthened around a common goal.
- Transparency, a real strength
By communicating openly about progress and challenges, Sopht gains the trust of its stakeholders. This approach has helped build strong relationships while demonstrating that Sopht is committed to a sincere and ambitious approach.
How to do a carbon assessment in your company?
- Measure to act better : the carbon footprint is the first step in identifying the levers for improvement.
- Involve your teams : innovation is often born from ideas from the field.
- Set clear goals : realistic ambitions encourage action and follow-up.
The goal? Not just to compare yourself to others, but to engage in a genuine and authentic decarbonization process.
And now?
Our 2023 carbon footprint is an important milestone, but the journey continues. We invest in eco-design training and improve our practices to offer ever more sustainable solutions.
By sharing our results, we hope to inspire other companies to follow this path. Together, let’s make technology an ally against climate change.
